Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of OhioIoT (“Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

Service description

OhioIoT provides MQTT connectivity and related services. Features may change over time as the Service evolves.

Accounts

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and devices.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account.
  • We may suspend accounts to protect the platform from abuse or security threats.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Break the law, distribute malware, or conduct abusive or harmful activity.
  • Attempt unauthorized access to systems, accounts, or data.
  • Overload or disrupt the Service (including excessive connection churn or message flooding).
  • Use the Service for safety-critical or mission-critical systems where failure could cause harm.

Plans, billing, and cancellation

  • Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis unless otherwise stated at checkout.
  • You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • We may change pricing for future billing periods with reasonable notice.

When a subscription is cancelled or otherwise lapses, access to the Service — including device and MQTT connectivity — is suspended. Your account data is retained for up to 90 days after access ends; if you resubscribe within that period, your account and device connectivity are restored. After 90 days, the account and all associated data are permanently deleted. You may also choose, in your account settings, to have your data deleted immediately when your subscription ends rather than retained for this period.

Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. Deletion is immediate and permanent: it removes your account data, including your settings, device data, device twins, uploaded firmware, and MQTT and HTTP credentials. This action cannot be undone, and we cannot recover deleted data. Deleting your account ends access immediately and forfeits any remaining paid period; no prorated refund is provided. You may sign in again afterward, but you will start with a new, empty account that contains none of your previous data.

Refunds

Unless required by law, fees are non-refundable, including any remaining paid period when you cancel or delete your account. If you believe you were billed in error, contact support.

Availability and changes

We aim for reliable uptime, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time.

E-mail communication

We use your email address only to operate your account and to send transactional and service-related messages — billing receipts, security notifications, password resets, service status updates, support responses, and material changes to these Terms or our Privacy Policy. We do not send marketing emails, and we do not share your email address with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. We share it only with service providers that process it on our behalf to deliver these communications and operate your account. See our Privacy Policy for details.

SMS alert notifications

OhioIoT offers optional SMS text message alerts. By providing your phone number and enabling SMS alerts, you consent to receive text messages from OhioIoT when an alert rule you have defined is triggered.

  • Each alert generates one text message when triggered. An alert will not fire again for the same condition unless you log in and manually clear it.
  • Message frequency depends on the alert rules you configure.
  • Message and data rates may apply.
  • You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, deleting the alert you configured, or by removing your phone number from your account settings.
  • Reply HELP to any message for assistance, or contact [email protected].
  • We do not share your phone number with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes, and we will not call your number. We share it only with the service providers and carriers necessary to deliver the alert messages you configure.
  • SMS alert availability may vary by carrier. OhioIoT is not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages caused by carrier issues.

Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OhioIoT will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if needed to protect the Service or other users.
